“Again, a second time, He went away and prayed, saying,
Matthew 26:42
‘O My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless I drink it,
Your will be done.’”
Our precious Savior prayed this prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane as He was in full awareness of what was about to come. He was about to be tortured, beaten, mocked and even slapped and spit upon. Finally, nails would pierce His body as He was nailed to a cross for our sins. Yours and mine. Even when His Father was silent Jesus prayed “… Your will be done.”
O Lord, when You are silent may we always realize that You are always there. When life brings to us a cup from which we must drink, may we feel Your loving hand supporting us.
May we follow the example of Christ to keep on, keeping on; even when we must drink from the cup of sorrow. May the Holy Spirit give us Your Sabbath rest even in the midst of uncertainty.
May Your promises of joy coming in the morning, working all things for good and lifting us up on eagles wings give us courage as we drink from the cup of life. May we with confidence say “Your will be done.”
Because of Jesus.
